Sulayman bin Yasar reported,

Abu Ayub Ansari set out for Hajj, but when he reached Naziyah on the road to Makkah he lost his mounts. He came to Umar bin Khattab on the Day of Sacrifice and told him what had happened.Umar said, "Do as one performing umrah does, and then you have left the state of consecration. When the next Hajj comes to you, perform Hajj and offer whatever sacrificial animal you can afford."

حدثني يحيى عن مالك عن يحيى بن سعيد أنه قال

أخبرني سليمان بن يسار

أن أبا أيوب الأنصاري خرج حاجا حتى إذا كان بالنازية من طريق مكة أضل رواحله وإنه قدم على عمر بن الخطاب يوم النحر فذكر ذلك له فقال عمر اصنع كما يصنع المعتمر ثم قد حللت فإذا أدركك الحج قابلا فاحجج وأهد ما استيسر من الهدي
