Urwa bin Zubayr reported,

Umar bin Khattab wrote to Abu Musa Ashari, "Pray Asr while the sun is still white and clear, with enough daylight left for a rider to travel three leagues. And pray the night prayer at any time between sunset and the first third of the night, or if you delay it, up until the middle of the night. And do not be among the heedless."

عن هشام بن عروة عن أبيه

أن عمر بن الخطاب كتب إلى أبي موسى الأشعري أن صل العصر والشمس بيضاء نقية قدر ما يسير الراكب ثلاثة فراسخ وأن صل العشاء ما بينك وبين ثلث الليل فإن أخرت فإلى شطر الليل ولا تكن من الغافلين
