Malik bin Abu Amir reported,

Umar bin Khattab wrote to Abu Musa, "Pray Dhuhr when the sun has passed its zenith, and Asr while the sun is still white and clear, before any yellowness enters it. Pray Maghrib when the sun has set. Delay the night prayer as long as you do not fall asleep. And pray the dawn prayer while the stars are still visible and closely clustered, reciting in it two long surahs from the final section of the Quran."

و حدثني عن مالك

عن عمه أبي سهيل عن أبيه

أن عمر بن الخطاب كتب إلى أبي موسى أن صل الظهر إذا زاغت الشمس والعصر والشمس بيضاء نقية قبل أن يدخلها صفرة والمغرب إذا غربت الشمس وأخر العشاء ما لم تنم وصل الصبح والنجوم بادية مشتبكة واقرأ فيها بسورتين طويلتين من المفصل
