Abdullah bin Arqam said, "Point me to a camel among the riding beasts that I can provide as a mount for the Commander of the Believers."I said, "Yes, one of the camels from the charity."Abdullah bin Arqam replied, "Would you be pleased if a heavy man on a hot day washed for you what lies beneath his waist-wrapper and the creases of his groin, then handed the water to you and you drank it?"I became angry and said, "May Allah forgive you. How can you say such a thing to me?"Abdullah bin Arqam answered, "Charity is nothing but the filth of the people, which they wash away from themselves."
و حدثني عن مالك
قال عبد الله بن الأرقم ادللني على بعير من المطايا أستحمل عليه أمير المؤمنين فقلت نعم جملا من الصدقة فقال عبد الله بن الأرقم أتحب أن رجلا بادنا في يوم حار غسل لك ما تحت إزاره ورفغيه ثم أعطاكه فشربته قال فغضبت وقلت يغفر الله لك أتقول لي مثل هذا فقال عبد الله بن الأرقم إنما الصدقة أوساخ الناس يغسلونها عنهم
