Abdullah bin Umar would give nothing more than the iqamah while traveling, except for the dawn prayer, for which he would call out the summons and then give the iqamah. He used to say, "The adhan is only for the imam whom the people gather to."

أن عبد الله بن عمر كان لا يزيد على الإقامة في السفر إلا في الصبح فإنه كان ينادي فيها ويقيم وكان يقول إنما الأذان للإمام الذي يجتمع الناس إليه
