There was an irrigation channel belonging to Abdul-Rahman bin Awf running through his grandfather's walled garden. Abdul-Rahman bin Awf wanted to move it to a side of the garden that was nearer to his own land, but the owner of the garden refused to let him. So Abdul-Rahman bin Awf spoke to Umar bin Khattab about the matter, and Umar ruled in favor of Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, allowing him to move it.

كان في حائط جده ربيع لعبد الرحمن بن عوف فأراد عبد الرحمن بن عوف أن يحوله إلى ناحية من الحائط هي أقرب إلى أرضه فمنعه صاحب الحائط فكلم عبد الرحمن بن عوف عمر بن الخطاب في ذلك فقضى لعبد الرحمن بن عوف بتحويله
