Nufay, a slave who had a contract of manumission with Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, sought a ruling from Zayd bin Thabit. He said, "I have pronounced two divorces against my wife, who is a free woman."Zayd bin Thabit replied, "She is now forbidden to you."
