Nufay, a slave who had contracted with Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, for his freedom, pronounced divorce twice against a free woman who was his wife. He then asked Uthman bin Affan for a ruling, and Uthman told him, "She is now forbidden to you."
