Malik reported,

A man came to Abdullah bin Masud and said, "I have divorced my wife with eight pronouncements of divorce."Ibn Masud asked, "And what have you been told?"The man replied, "I was told that she is now separated from me for good."Ibn Masud said, "They spoke the truth. Whoever divorces in the way Allah commanded him, Allah has made the matter clear for him. But whoever confuses matters for himself, we leave his confusion clinging to him. Do not confuse matters for yourselves and then expect us to carry the burden for you. It is just as they say."
