Abu Bakr bin Hazm reported,

Umar bin Abdul-Aziz asked him about an absolute divorce, and what people had to say about it.Abu Bakr said, "I told him that Abban bin Uthman used to count it as a single divorce."Umar bin Abdul-Aziz replied, "Even if divorces numbered a thousand, an absolute divorce would leave nothing of them remaining. Whoever pronounces divorce absolutely has shot to the very furthest limit."

أن عمر بن عبد العزيز قال له البتة ما يقول الناس فيها قال أبو بكر فقلت له كان أبان بن عثمان يجعلها واحدة فقال عمر بن عبد العزيز لو كان الطلاق ألفا ما أبقت البتة منها شيئا من قال البتة فقد رمى الغاية القصوى
