We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of Khaybar, and we gained no gold or silver as spoils, only property, clothing, and goods.Rifa bin Zayd presented the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a black slave named Midam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then headed toward Wadi al-Qura, and when we were at Wadi al-Qura, while Midam was unloading the saddle of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a stray arrow struck him and killed him.The people said, "How fortunate for him, Paradise is his."But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Not at all. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, the cloak he took from the spoils on the day of Khaybar, which was never included in the division, is now blazing upon him as fire."When the people heard this, a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a sandal strap, or two straps, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A strap of fire, or two straps of fire."
و حدثني عن مالك عن ثور بن زيد الديلي عن أبي الغيث سالم مولى ابن مطيع
خرجنا مع رسول الله ﷺ عام خيبر فلم نغنم ذهبا ولا ورقا إلا الأموال الثياب والمتاع قال فأهدى رفاعة بن زيد لرسول الله ﷺ غلاما أسود يقال له مدعم فوجه رسول الله ﷺ إلى وادي القرى حتى إذا كنا بوادي القرى بينما مدعم يحط رحل رسول الله ﷺ إذ جاءه سهم عائر فأصابه فقتله فقال الناس هنيئا له الجنة فقال رسول الله ﷺ كلا والذي نفسي بيده إن الشملة التي أخذ يوم خيبر من المغانم لم تصبها المقاسم لتشتعل عليه نارا قال فلما سمع الناس ذلك جاء رجل بشراك أو شراكين إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ شراك أو شراكان من نار
