Umar bin Abdul-Aziz wrote to one of his governors that he had learned that whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched a raiding party, he would tell them, "Fight in the name of Allah, in the cause of Allah. You are fighting those who have rejected Allah. Do not act treacherously with the spoils, do not break your word, do not mutilate the dead, and do not kill a child."Say this to your armies and your raiding parties, if Allah wills. أن عمر بن عبد العزيز كتب إلى عامل من عماله: أنه بلغه: أن رسول الله ﷺ كان إذا بعث سرية يقول لهم: اغزوا باسم الله، في سبيل الله، تقاتلون من كفر بالله، لا تغلوا، ولا تغدروا، ولا تمثلوا، ولا تقتلوا وليدا. وقل ذلك لجيوشك وسراياك، إن شاء الله، والسلام عليك
