A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, I hold back from attending the dawn prayer because of so-and-so, due to how long he prolongs it for us."He said, I had never seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more angry in any sermon than he was that day. He said, "People, some of you drive others away. Whoever among you leads the people in prayer, let him keep it short, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and those with pressing needs."
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن نمير حدثنا أبي حدثنا إسمعيل عن قيس
أتى النبي ﷺ رجل فقال يا رسول الله إني لأتأخر في صلاة الغداة من أجل فلان لما يطيل بنا فيها قال فما رأيت رسول الله ﷺ قط في موعظة أشد غضبا منه يومئذ فقال يا أيها الناس إن منكم منفرين فأيكم ما صلى بالناس فليجوز فإن فيهم الضعيف والكبير وذا الحاجة
Bukhari narrated it in "Knowledge," chapter "Anger during exhortation and teaching when one sees something disliked," no. 90, 704, 702, 6110, 7159, and Muslim in "Prayer," chapter "Commanding imams to shorten the prayer while performing it fully," no. 466, from the hadith of Ismail bin Abu Khalid, transmitted through him. Muslim also narrated it from Ibn Numayr, from his father, transmitted through him.
