The companions disagreed in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about how to perform the ritual bath after major impurity, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for me, I pour three handfuls of water over my head."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا أبو الأحوص عن أبي إسحق عن سليمان بن صرد
تماروا في الغسل من الجنابة عند رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ أما أنا فأفيض على رأسي ثلاث أكف
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of ghusl, chapter, "Whoever poured water on his head three times," no. 254, and Muslim in the Book of Menstruation, chapter, "The recommendation of pouring water over the head and other parts three times," no. 327, from the hadith of Abu Ishaq, with the same chain.
