I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man from the Ansar came and greeted the Prophet ﷺ, then asked, "Messenger of Allah, which of the believers is the best?"He replied, "The one with the finest character."The man asked, "And which of the believers is the wisest?"He answered, "The one who remembers death most often and prepares best for what comes after it. Those are the wise ones."
حدثنا الزبير بن بكار حدثنا أنس بن عياض حدثنا نافع بن عبد الله عن فروة بن قيس عن عطاء بن أبي رباح
كنت مع رسول الله ﷺ فجاءه رجل من الأنصار فسلم على النبي ﷺ ثم قال يا رسول الله أي المؤمنين أفضل قال أحسنهم خلقا قال فأي المؤمنين أكيس قال أكثرهم للموت ذكرا وأحسنهم لما بعده استعدادا أولئك الأكياس
Hasan.Farwah bin Qays was followed by Ala bin Utbah (Hilyah 1/313), and by Abu Muayd Hafs bin Ghaylan, as reported by Tabarani in Musnad Shamiyin 2/392, hadith 1559, and its chain is hasan. Hakim graded it sahih 4/540–541, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Mujahid also narrated it from Ibn Umar, and Tabarani reported it in Al-Saghir 2/87 and Al-Kabir 12/417, hadith 13563, and Haythami said, 10/309, its chain is hasan.
