The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The wise person is the one who holds himself accountable and works for what comes after death, and the helpless person is the one who follows his own desires and then places false hopes upon Allah."
حدثنا هشام بن عبد الملك الحمصي حدثنا بقية بن الوليد حدثني ابن أبي مريم عن ضمرة بن حبيب
قال رسول الله ﷺ الكيس من دان نفسه وعمل لما بعد الموت والعاجز من أتبع نفسه هواها ثم تمنى على الله
[Its chain is daif]Tirmidhi collected it in the Description of the Resurrection, chapter on the hadith of "the intelligent one is he who subdues himself and works for what comes after death," hadith 2459, from the hadith of Abu Bakr bin Abu Maryam, with this wording, and he said, Hasan.
