The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Envy consumes good deeds just as fire consumes firewood, charity extinguishes sin just as water extinguishes fire, prayer is the light of the believer, and fasting is a shield from the Fire."
حدثنا هارون بن عبد الله الحمال وأحمد بن الأزهر قالا حدثنا ابن أبي فديك عن عيسى بن أبي عيسى الحناط عن أبي الزناد
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال الحسد يأكل الحسنات كما تأكل النار الحطب والصدقة تطفئ الخطيئة كما يطفئ الماء النار والصلاة نور المؤمن والصيام جنة من النار
[Its isnad is very daif] Abu Yaala reported it, 330/6, no. 3656, from Harun, with this wording. See no. 3315 regarding the status of Isa Hannat. The hadith of Abu Dawud, no. 4904, suffices in place of it. Part of the hadith has corroborating narrations, see no. 280 and others.
