We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he said, "The delegation of Abdul-Qays is coming to you." None of us could see anything at the time. While we were in that state, they arrived, dismounted, and came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.Ashajj al-Asari remained behind and came later. He stopped at a place, made his mount kneel, set his clothes aside, then came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Ashajj, you possess two qualities that Allah loves, forbearance and deliberateness."Ashajj asked, "Messenger of Allah, are these qualities I was created with, or qualities I have acquired?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Rather, they are qualities you were created with."

كنا جلوسا عند رسول الله ﷺ فقال أتتكم وفود عبد القيس وما يرى أحد فينا نحن كذلك إذ جاءوا فنزلوا فأتوا رسول الله ﷺ وبقي الأشج العصري فجاء بعد فنزل منزلا فأناخ راحلته ووضع ثيابه جانبا ثم جاء إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال له رسول الله ﷺ يا أشج إن فيك لخصلتين يحبهما الله الحلم والتؤدة قال يا رسول الله أشيء جبلت عليه أم شيء حدث لي قال رسول الله ﷺ بل شيء جبلت عليه
