Jafar bin Abu Talib loved the poor. He would sit with them, talk with them, and listen to them speak. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him the nickname "Father of the Poor."
حدثنا عبد الله بن سعيد الكندي حدثنا إسمعيل بن إبراهيم التيمي أبو يحيى حدثنا إبراهيم أبو إسحق المخزومي عن المقبري
كان جعفر بن أبي طالب يحب المساكين ويجلس إليهم ويحدثهم ويحدثونه وكان رسول الله ﷺ يكنيه أبا المساكين
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Tirmidhi narrated it in the chapter on virtues, in the section on the saying of Abu Hurairah, "No one wore sandals after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ better than Jafar," no. 3766, from Abdullah bin Saeed with this wording, and he said, "Gharib." See also no. 2545, due to the maternal uncle of Ibrahim bin Fadl Makhzumi, and it has another defect.
