The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Asceticism in this world is not about forbidding what is lawful, nor squandering wealth. Rather, asceticism in this world is that you should not place greater trust in what is in your hands than in what is in the hand of Allah, and that you should be more eager for the reward of an affliction when it strikes you than you would have been for the affliction itself had it been spared from you."Hisham said, Abu Idris al-Khawlani used to say, "A hadith like this one, among other hadiths, is like pure gold among ordinary gold."
حدثنا هشام بن عمار حدثنا عمرو بن واقد القرشي حدثنا يونس بن ميسرة بن حلبس عن أبي إدريس الخولاني
قال رسول الله ﷺ ليس الزهادة في الدنيا بتحريم الحلال ولا في إضاعة المال ولكن الزهادة في الدنيا أن لا تكون بما في يديك أوثق منك بما في يد الله وأن تكون في ثواب المصيبة إذا أصبت بها أرغب منك فيها لو أنها أبقيت لك قال هشام كان أبو إدريس الخولاني يقول مثل هذا الحديث في الأحاديث كمثل الإبريز في الذهب
[Its chain of transmission is very daif] It was narrated by Tirmidhi, in the Book of Zuhd, Chapter on what has been said about asceticism in this world, hadith no. 2340, from the hadith of Amr bin Waqid, and he said, "Ghareeb..." Amr bin Waqid's narrations are considered munkar.
