Umm Salama bint Abu Umaya reported,

Abu Bakr set out on a trading journey to Busra a year before the death of the Prophet ﷺ. With him were Naeeman and Suwaybit bin Harmala, both of whom had been present at Badr. Naeeman was in charge of the provisions, and Suwaybit was a jokester.Suwaybit said to Naeeman, "Feed me."Naeeman replied, "Not until Abu Bakr arrives."Suwaybit said, "Then I will get back at you."They passed by some people, and Suwaybit said to them, "Will you buy a slave of mine?"They said, "Yes."He said, "He is a slave with a sharp tongue, and he will say to you, 'I am a free man.' If you would let him go when he says that to you, then do not bother buying my slave from me."They said, "No, we will buy him from you anyway."So they bought him from Suwaybit for ten young she-camels. Then they came to Naeeman and placed a turban or rope around his neck.Naeeman said, "This man is mocking you. I am a free man, not a slave."They said, "We have already been told all about you," and they led him away.When Abu Bakr came and was informed of what had happened, he went after the people, returned the she-camels to them, and recovered Naeeman.When they came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what had happened, the Prophet ﷺ and his companions laughed about it for a year.

عن أم سلمة قالت

خرج أبو بكر في تجارة إلى بصرى قبل موت النبي ﷺ بعام ومعه نعيمان وسويبط بن حرملة وكانا شهدا بدرا وكان نعيمان على الزاد وكان سويبط رجلا مزاحا فقال لنعيمان أطعمني قال حتى يجيء أبو بكر قال فلأغيظنك قال فمروا بقوم فقال لهم سويبط تشترون مني عبدا لي قالوا نعم قال إنه عبد له كلام وهو قائل لكم إني حر فإن كنتم إذا قال لكم هذه المقالة تركتموه فلا تفسدوا علي عبدي قالوا لا بل نشتريه منك فاشتروه منه بعشر قلائص ثم أتوه فوضعوا في عنقه عمامة أو حبلا فقال نعيمان إن هذا يستهزئ بكم وإني حر لست بعبد فقالوا قد أخبرنا خبرك فانطلقوا به فجاء أبو بكر فأخبروه بذلك قال فاتبع القوم ورد عليهم القلائص وأخذ نعيمان قال فلما قدموا على النبي ﷺ وأخبروه قال فضحك النبي ﷺ وأصحابه منه حولا
