The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to mingle with us, so much so that he would say to a younger brother of mine, "Abu Umayr, what happened to the nughayr?"Waki said, this refers to a small bird he used to play with.
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا وكيع عن شعبة عن أبي التياح قال سمعت
كان رسول الله ﷺ يخالطنا حتى يقول لأخ لي صغير يا أبا عمير ما فعل النغير قال وكيع يعني طيرا كان يلعب به
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Manners, chapter "Being cheerful and easygoing with people," hadith no. 6129, from the hadith of Shubah, no. 6203, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Mosques, chapter "The permissibility of performing voluntary prayers in congregation, and praying on a mat, a khumrah, a garment, or other clean surfaces," hadith no. 659, from the hadith of Abu Tayah, with the same chain.
