Aisha reported that whenever the Prophet ﷺ fell ill, he would recite the Muawwidhat over himself and blow gently. When his illness grew severe, I would recite them over him and wipe his body with his own hand, hoping for its blessing.
حدثنا سهل بن أبي سهل قال حدثنا معن بن عيسى ح و حدثنا محمد بن يحيى حدثنا بشر بن عمر قالا حدثنا مالك عن ابن شهاب عن عروة
أن النبي ﷺ كان إذا اشتكى يقرأ على نفسه بالمعوذات وينفث فلما اشتد وجعه كنت أقرأ عليه وأمسح بيده رجاء بركتها
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Quran, Chapter on the Virtue of the Muawwidhat, no. 5016, and Muslim in the Book of Greetings, Chapter on Treating the Sick with the Muawwidhat and Blowing, no. 2192, from the hadith of Malik through this chain, and it is found in Muwatta, 2/942, 943.
