Amir bin Rabia passed by Sahl bin Hunayf while he was bathing and said, "I have never seen anything like what I see today, not even the skin of a maiden kept in seclusion." Sahl was struck down on the spot. He was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and it was said to him, "Come to Sahl, he has been struck down."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Whom do you suspect of this?"They replied, "Amir bin Rabia."He said, "Why would one of you kill his brother? When one of you sees something in his brother that pleases him, let him pray for blessing for him."Then he called for water and ordered Amir to perform ablution, washing his face, his arms up to the elbows, his knees, and the inside of his lower garment, and he commanded that the water be poured over Sahl.Sufyan said, Muamar reported from Zuhri that he ordered the vessel to be overturned behind him.
حدثنا هشام بن عمار حدثنا سفيان عن الزهري
مر عامر بن ربيعة بسهل بن حنيف وهو يغتسل فقال لم أر كاليوم ولا جلد مخبأة فما لبث أن لبط به فأتي به النبي ﷺ فقيل له أدرك سهلا صريعا قال من تتهمون به قالوا عامر بن ربيعة قال علام يقتل أحدكم أخاه إذا رأى أحدكم من أخيه ما يعجبه فليدع له بالبركة ثم دعا بماء فأمر عامرا أن يتوضأ فيغسل وجهه ويديه إلى المرفقين وركبتيه وداخلة إزاره وأمره أن يصب عليه قال سفيان قال معمر عن الزهري وأمره أن يكفأ الإناء من خلفه

Sourcing, sahih. Nasai narrated it in Kubra 6/60, no. 10036, from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, with this chain, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1424, 1425, as did Hakim, 4/215, 216, and Dhahabi. Zuhri stated explicitly that he heard it directly, and Malik corroborated him, and the hadith has supporting narrations.
