We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Dhul-Hulayfah in Tihamah when we captured some camels and sheep. The people hastened and set the cooking pots boiling before the spoils were distributed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us and ordered the pots to be overturned, then he reckoned a camel as equal to ten sheep.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Partnership, in the chapter "One Who Reckons Ten Sheep Equal to One Camel in Division," hadith numbers 5509, 5506, 2507, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Sacrifices, in the chapter "The Permissibility of Slaughtering with Anything That Causes Blood to Flow Except Teeth and Bones," hadith number 1968, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri, with this same chain.
