Abbas bin Abdul-Muttalib asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for permission to spend the nights of Mina in Mecca on account of his duty of providing water to the pilgrims, and he granted him permission.
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير حدثنا عبيد الله عن نافع
استأذن العباس بن عبد المطلب رسول الله ﷺ أن يبيت بمكة أيام منى من أجل سقايته فأذن له
Bukhari transmitted it in the Book of Hajj, chapter "May the keepers of the water-supply or others spend the nights of Mina in Makkah," hadith no. 1745, and Muslim transmitted it in the Book of Hajj, chapter "The obligation of spending the nights at Mina during the nights of the days of Tashriq, and the permission for the keepers of the water-supply to forgo it," hadith no. 1315, from the hadith of Ibn Numayr, with this same wording.
