The Prophet ﷺ left my presence cheerful and in good spirits, then returned to me looking sorrowful. I said, "Messenger of Allah, you left me cheerful and have come back grieved."He replied, "I entered the Kaabah, and I wish I had not done so. I fear that I have placed a burden on my community after me."
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا وكيع حدثنا إسمعيل بن عبد الملك عن ابن أبي مليكة
خرج النبي ﷺ من عندي وهو قرير العين طيب النفس ثم رجع إلي وهو حزين فقلت يا رسول الله خرجت من عندي وأنت قرير العين ورجعت وأنت حزين فقال إني دخلت الكعبة ووددت أني لم أكن فعلت إني أخاف أن أكون أتعبت أمتي من بعدي
[Its chain is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Rites, chapter on entering the Kaaba, no. 2029, from the hadith of Ismail through this route, and Tirmidhi narrated it, no. 873, and Tirmidhi said, hasan sahih. I say, Ismail bin Abdul-Malik is daif, and the majority of scholars judged him daif, and Ibn Hibban said, "His memory and understanding were poor, and he would confuse what he narrated."
