A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, my father is a very old man who cannot perform Hajj or Umra, nor can he travel."He replied, "Perform Hajj and Umra on behalf of your father."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة وعلي بن محمد قالا حدثنا وكيع عن شعبة عن النعمان بن سالم عن عمرو بن أوس
أنه أتى النبي ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله إن أبي شيخ كبير لا يستطيع الحج ولا العمرة ولا الظعن قال حج عن أبيك واعتمر
Its isnad is sahih. Tirmidhi transmitted it, in the Book of Hajj, a chapter therein, no. 930, from the hadith of Waki, with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 3040, as did Ibn Hibban, no. 961, and Hakim, according to the standard of the two Sheikhs, 1/481, and Dhahabi agreed with him, and Ahmad bin Hanbal, may Allah have mercy on him, strengthened it.
