A man from al-Faraa sought a ruling from the Prophet ﷺ regarding a Hajj that had been due upon his father, who had died without performing it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Perform Hajj on behalf of your father." The Prophet ﷺ also said, "Likewise, fasting that was vowed is to be made up on his behalf."

رجل من الفرع أنه استفتى النبي ﷺ عن حجة كانت على أبيه مات ولم يحج قال النبي ﷺ حج عن أبيك وقال النبي ﷺ وكذلك الصيام في النذر يقضى عنه

[Its chain is daif] Bayhaqi (4/335) reported it through the route of Shuayb bin Zurayq, from Ata Khurasani, with the same wording, and said its chain is daif. Busiri and Asqalani also declared it daif (Talkhis 2/225). I say, Ata never heard from Abu Ghawth , as stated in Taqrib and elsewhere.
