A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, "Shall I perform Hajj on behalf of my father?"He replied, "Yes, perform Hajj on behalf of your father. If it does not add to his good, it will not add to his harm either."

جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ فقال أحج عن أبي قال نعم حج عن أبيك فإن لم تزده خيرا لم تزده شرا
[Its chain is daif] Tabarani reported it in Al-Kabir 12/245, no. 13009, from the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq, and as far as we know he alone narrated it. His teacher Thawri, previously mentioned at no. 162, was one of the major mudallis narrators, and we did not find him stating clearly that he heard it. Some scholars said about this hadith, "This wording is objectionable, unlike the words of the Prophet ﷺ, for it would mean he commanded something without knowing whether it would benefit or not." Despite this, Busiri graded it sahih.
