A woman from Khathaam came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, my father is a very old man who has become senile, and the obligation of Allah upon His servants regarding the Hajj has reached him, but he is unable to perform it. Will it suffice on his behalf if I perform it for him?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Yes."

أن امرأة من خثعم جاءت النبي ﷺ فقالت يا رسول الله إن أبي شيخ كبير قد أفند وأدركته فريضة الله على عباده في الحج ولا يستطيع أداءها فهل يجزئ عنه أن أؤديها عنه قال رسول الله ﷺ نعم
Sourcing, [Sahih] Tabarani reported it (10/374, no. 10748) through the hadith of Muhammad bin Uthman with the same wording, and it is a hasan chain of transmission, though it contains a minor defect that does not affect its soundness. Bukhari, Muslim, and others also reported it through the hadith of Sulayman bin Yasar from Ibn Abbas with similar wording (Tuhfat Ashraf, 4/466, no. 5670).
