The Prophet ﷺ passed by a group of men practicing archery and said, "Shoot, sons of Ismail, for your father was an archer."

مر النبي ﷺ بنفر يرمون فقال رميا بني إسمعيل فإن أباكم كان راميا
Sourcing, Sahih. Ahmad narrated it, 1/364, from Abdul-Razzaq with this chain. Hakim graded it sahih, 2/94, meeting the criteria of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Sufyan Thawri was mentioned previously, no. 162, and Amash was mentioned previously, no. 178, both using the ambiguous form "an" in transmission. The hadith has a corroborating narration in Ibn Hibban's Sahih, no. 1646, which Hakim graded sahih, meeting the criteria of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him, and its chain is hasan. Bukhari also narrated something similar in his Sahih, no. 2899, and others narrated it as well, from the hadith of Salama bin Akwa.
