I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever shoots an arrow at the enemy and his arrow reaches the enemy, whether it hits or misses, it is equivalent to freeing a slave."
[Sahih] Bayhaqi related it (162/9), and Hakim (96/2), from the hadith of Ibn Wahb, with this wording. Qasim bin Abdul-Rahman did not, I believe, meet Amr bin Abasa. Tabarani related it in Awsat (120/4, no. 3189) from the hadith of Ibn Lahia, from Sulayman bin Abdul-Rahman, from Qasim Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Shurahbil, and so on, with this wording. Salim bin Amir corroborated him, narrating from Shurahbil with this wording. Tabarani related it in Musnad Shamiyin (2/2, no. 957) with a sahih isnad, and Nasai (26/6) and others related it from him. The hadith has very many chains, found in Abu Dawud (no. 3965), Tirmidhi (no. 1638), and others.
