The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah admits three people into Paradise on account of a single arrow: its maker who intends good through his craft, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands it to him."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, "Shoot and ride, but shooting is dearer to me than riding. Every pastime a Muslim engages in is vain, except shooting his bow, training his horse, and playing with his wife. These are matters of truth."
[Its chain is hasan] Tirmidhi narrated it in "The Merits of Jihad," the chapter on what has been said about the merit of archery in the path of Allah, hadith 1637, from the hadith of Yazid, with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih.Yahya bin Abu Kathir explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as recorded by Ahmad, 4/144, and he also heard it from a man, from Abu Salam, with this wording, so both routes are preserved.Abdullah (also said to be Khalid bin Zayd al-Azraq) was deemed reliable by Ibn Hibban, by Hakim (2/95), by Dhahabi, and by Haythami (4/329), among others. See Nayl Maqsud, the commentary on Sunan Abu Dawud, hadith 2513. The hadith also has corroborating witnesses.
