I entered upon al-Mukhtar in his palace, and he said, "Jibril rose from beside me just now, and nothing prevented me from striking his neck except a hadith I heard from Sulayman bin Surad from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said, 'If a man trusts you with his life, do not kill him.' That is what stopped me from doing it."
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا وكيع حدثنا أبو ليلى عن أبي عكاشة
دخلت على المختار في قصره فقال قام جبرائيل من عندي الساعة فما منعني من ضرب عنقه إلا حديث سمعته من سليمان بن صرد عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال إذا أمنك الرجل على دمه فلا تقتله فذاك الذي منعني منه

[Its isnad is daif] Bukhari narrated it in Tarikh al-Kabir 3/323, Ahmad 6/393, and Ibn Adi 4/1489, from the hadith of Abu Layla Abdullah bin Maysara Harithi Wasiti with this wording, and Busiri graded it daif.Abdullah bin Maysara is daif (see Taqrib), and Abu Ukasha Hamdani is unknown.The name Abu Ayesha appears in the Musnad, but this is a scribal error. See Atraf Musnad 2/508 and its footnote. The preceding hadith makes this one unnecessary.
