Were it not for a statement I heard from Amr bin Hamiq al-Khuzai, I would have walked between the head of Mukhtar and his body. I heard him say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever grants a man safety regarding his life and then kills him will carry the banner of treachery on the Day of Resurrection."
[Sahih] Reported by Nasai in al-Kubra, 5/225, no. 8739, from the hadith of Abu Awana, on this account, and Busiri graded it sahih.I say, Abdul-Malik bin Umayr (2118 b) explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as recorded by Nasai (al-Kubra, no. 8741), except that he said, "Amir bin Shaddad narrated to me," whereas the correct name is Rifa bin Shaddad. Ismail Suddi corroborated him, narrating from Rifa on this account, as recorded by Ibn Hibban, no. 1682, and others. The hadith has other routes of transmission as well.
