He saw some people selling water and said, "Do not sell water, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid the sale of water."

Grading, sahih. Narrated by Abu Dawud in the Book of Business Transactions, chapter on selling surplus water, hadith 3478, from the hadith of Amr bin Dinar. Tirmidhi graded it sahih, hadith 1271, as did Ibn Jarud, hadith 594, and Ibn Daqiq Eid. Hakim (2/44, 61) said it meets the criteria of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him.
