The Prophet ﷺ said that a man died, and he was asked, "What did you do in your life?" Either he himself remembered, or he was reminded. He said, "I used to be lenient with people in dealings of currency and coin, and I would grant the one in difficulty more time." So Allah forgave him.Abu Masud said, "I myself heard this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا أبو عامر حدثنا شعبة عن عبد الملك بن عمير قال سمعت ربعي بن حراش يحدث
عن النبي ﷺ أن رجلا مات فقيل له ما عملت فإما ذكر أو ذكر قال إني كنت أتجوز في السكة والنقد وأنظر المعسر فغفر الله له قال أبو مسعود أنا قد سمعت هذا من رسول الله ﷺ
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on borrowing, in the section on good conduct in demanding repayment, no. 2391, and Muslim narrated it in the chapter on transactions concerning irrigation and cultivation, in the section on the virtue of granting a hardship-stricken debtor extra time and being lenient in collecting from both the well-off and the hardship-stricken, no. 1560, from the hadith of Shubah, through this route.
