The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whenever a man dies while he has in his possession the property of another, identifiable in itself, whether the owner has received anything from it or not, that owner stands on equal footing with the other creditors."
Sourcing, [hasan] Daraqutni narrated it, 3/29, from the hadith of Amr bin Uthman with the same wording, and he said, "Yaman bin Adi is weak in hadith." He also said, 4/229, "Ismail bin Ayyash differed with him, narrating from Zubaydi and Musa bin Uqba, and Yaman bin Adi and Ismail bin Ayyash are both daif." The hadith has very many corroborating narrations.
