When Jafar was killed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned to his family and said, "The family of Jafar are preoccupied with the affair of their deceased, so prepare food for them."Abdullah said, "It remained an established practice until recently, when it was abandoned."

[Its isnad is daif] Ahmad narrated it in 6/370 from the hadith of Ibn Ishaq, with the same wording. Umm Awn's status is unclear, and Umm Isa (al-Khuzaiyyah) the butcher, her status is also unknown (Taqrib). The preceding hadith makes this one unnecessary.
