The Prophet ﷺ stood in prayer through the night until morning, repeating a single verse, "If You punish them, they are Your servants, and if You forgive them, You are indeed the Almighty, the All-Wise" [Maidah 5:118].
حدثنا بكر بن خلف أبو بشر حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد عن قدامة بن عبد الله عن جسرة بنت دجاجة قالت سمعت
قام النبي ﷺ بآية حتى أصبح يرددها والآية {إن تعذبهم فإنهم عبادك وإن تغفر لهم فإنك أنت العزيز الحكيم}
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Nasai transmitted it (2/177, chapter on the opening, repeating the verse, no. 1011) from the hadith of Yahya Qattan, through this route.Ahmad transmitted it (5/149) from Fulayt Amiri, from Jasrah, through this route (see Atraf Musnad 6/214). Busiri said, "This chain of transmission is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy." Hakim graded it sahih (1/241), and so did Dhahabi.
