The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque and heard a man reciting. He asked, "Who is this?"It was said, "Abdullah bin Qays."He said, "This man has been given one of the flutes of the family of Dawud."
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أنبأنا محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة
دخل رسول الله ﷺ المسجد فسمع قراءة رجل فقال من هذا فقيل عبد الله بن قيس فقال لقد أوتي هذا من مزامير آل داود
Its isnad is hasan. Baghawi narrated it in Sharh al-Sunnah (4/488, no. 1219) from the hadith of Muhammad bin Yahya, through this route, and said, "This hadith is sahih." Ahmad narrated it (2/450) from Yazid, through this route. Busiri said, "This isnad is sahih, its men are trustworthy." The hadith has many corroborating narrations in Bukhari, Muslim, Nasai, and others.
