When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concluded the treaty with Suhayl bin Amr on the day of Hudaybiyah regarding the terms of the truce, one of the conditions Suhayl bin Amr stipulated was that he said, "No one from among us shall come to you, even if he follows your religion, without your returning him to us and leaving him to us." Suhayl refused to make any agreement with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except on these terms.The believers found this distressing and were deeply troubled, and they spoke out about it. But when Suhayl refused to settle with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except on these terms, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concluded the treaty with him. So that day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned Abu Jandal bin Suhayl to his father Suhayl bin Amr, and during that period he did not turn away any man who came to him without sending him back, even if he was a Muslim.Then believing women came as emigrants, and Umm Kulthum bint Uqba bin Abu Muayt was among those who went out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and she was a young woman who had just reached maturity. Her family came asking the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to return her to them, until Allah Most High revealed concerning the believing women what He revealed.
حدثني إسحاق أخبرنا يعقوب حدثني ابن أخي ابن شهاب عن عمه أخبرني عروة بن الزبير أنه سمع مروان بن الحكم والمسور بن مخرمة يخبران خبرا من خبر رسول الله ﷺ في عمرة الحديبية فكان فيما
أنه لما كاتب رسول الله ﷺ سهيل بن عمرو يوم الحديبية على قضية المدة وكان فيما اشترط سهيل بن عمرو أنه قال لا يأتيك منا أحد وإن كان على دينك إلا رددته إلينا وخليت بيننا وبينه وأبى سهيل أن يقاضي رسول الله ﷺ إلا على ذلك فكره المؤمنون ذلك وامعضوا فتكلموا فيه فلما أبى سهيل أن يقاضي رسول الله ﷺ إلا على ذلك كاتبه رسول الله ﷺ فرد رسول الله ﷺ أبا جندل بن سهيل يومئذ إلى أبيه سهيل بن عمرو ولم يأت رسول الله ﷺ أحد من الرجال إلا رده في تلك المدة وإن كان مسلما وجاءت المؤمنات مهاجرات فكانت أم كلثوم بنت عقبة بن أبي معيط ممن خرج إلى رسول الله ﷺ وهي عاتق فجاء أهلها يسألون رسول الله ﷺ أن يرجعها إليهم حتى أنزل الله تعالى في المؤمنات ما أنزل
