While I was standing in the ranks on the day of Badr, I looked to my right and to my left, and there I was between two young lads from the Ansar, both of tender age. I had wished to be between two stronger men.One of them nudged me and said, "Uncle, do you know Abu Jahl?"I said, "Yes. What do you want with him, nephew?"He said, "I have been told that he insults the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, if I see him, my body will not part from his until the one of us whose time has come dies first."I was amazed at this. Then the other one nudged me and said the same to me.It was not long before I caught sight of Abu Jahl moving about among the people. I said, "Look, that is the man you both asked me about."They rushed at him with their swords and struck him until they killed him. Then they returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him.He asked, "Which of you killed him?"Each of them said, "I killed him."He asked, "Have you wiped your swords?"They said, "No."He looked at the two swords and said, "Both of you killed him. His spoils belong to Muaz bin Amr bin Jamuh."The two were Muaz bin Afra and Muaz bin Amr bin Jamuh.Muhammad said, Yusuf heard it from Salih, and Ibrahim from his father.

بينا أنا واقف في الصف يوم بدر فنظرت عن يميني وعن شمالي فإذا أنا بغلامين من الأنصار حديثة أسنانهما تمنيت أن أكون بين أضلع منهما فغمزني أحدهما فقال يا عم هل تعرف أبا جهل قلت نعم ما حاجتك إليه يا ابن أخي قال أخبرت أنه يسب رسول الله ﷺ والذي نفسي بيده لئن رأيته لا يفارق سوادي سواده حتى يموت الأعجل منا فتعجبت لذلك فغمزني الآخر فقال لي مثلها فلم أنشب أن نظرت إلى أبي جهل يجول في الناس قلت ألا إن هذا صاحبكما الذي سألتماني فابتدراه بسيفيهما فضرباه حتى قتلاه ثم انصرفا إلى رسول الله ﷺ فأخبراه فقال أيكما قتله قال كل واحد منهما أنا قتلته فقال هل مسحتما سيفيكما قالا لا فنظر في السيفين فقال كلاكما قتله سلبه لمعاذ بن عمرو بن الجموح وكانا معاذ بن عفراء ومعاذ بن عمرو بن الجموح قال محمد سمع يوسف صالحا وإبراهيم أباه
