I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as part of the delegation from Kindah, and they regarded me as the most distinguished among them. I said, "Messenger of Allah, are you not from us?"He replied, "We are the descendants of Nadr bin Kinanah. We do not cast doubt upon our mother, nor do we disown our father."
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ في وفد كندة، ولا يروني إلا أفضلهم، فقلت: يا رسول الله، ألستم منا؟ فقال: نحن بنو النضر بن كنانة، لا نقفو أمنا، ولا ننتفي من أبينا.
Ibn Majah (2616) and Ahmad (21839) both narrated it from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, from Aqeel bin Talha Sulami, from Muslim bin Haydham, from Ashath bin Qays, who related it.Its isnad is hasan because of Muslim bin Haydham, for his hadith is hasan.Ibn Ishaq said, Ashath bin Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the delegation of Kinda. Zuhri bin Shihab told me that he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with eighty riders from Kinda. They entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his mosque, having combed their hair and applied kohl, wearing striped Yemeni cloaks trimmed with silk. When they entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said, "Have you not become Muslims?" They said, "Yes indeed." He said, "Then what is this silk doing around your necks?" He said, so they tore it off and threw it away.Sirat bin Hisham (2/585).
