Musaylimah the Liar came to Madinah during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and began saying, "If Muhammad grants me leadership after him, I will follow him." A great number of his people had come with him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to him accompanied by Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas, holding a piece of palm branch in his hand, until he stood before Musaylimah among his companions. He said, "Even if you asked me for this piece, I would not give it to you. You cannot escape what Allah has decreed concerning you, and if you turn away, Allah will surely destroy you. I see you as the one I was shown in my vision. This is Thabit, who will answer you on my behalf." Then he turned away from him.Ibn Abbas said, "I asked about the meaning of the Messenger of Allah's words, 'I see you as the one I was shown in my vision,' and Abu Hurairah told me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'While I was sleeping, I saw on my arms two bracelets of gold, and they troubled me. It was revealed to me in the dream to blow on them, so I blew on them and they flew away. I interpreted them as two liars who would emerge after me, one being al-Ansi and the other Musaylimah.'"
Bukhari narrated it in Maghazi (4373) and Muslim in Ruya (2273-2274:21), both of them through the route of Shuayb, from Abdullah bin Abu Husayn, who said, Nafi bin Jubayr narrated to us, from Ibn Abbas, who said, then he mentioned it.
