Abu Hurairah reported,

We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey when the people's provisions ran out, until he was about to slaughter some of their riding camels.Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, why not gather what remains of the people's provisions and invoke Allah's blessing over them?"So he did. The one who had wheat brought his wheat, the one who had dates brought his dates.Mujahid said, "And the one who had date pits brought his pits."I asked, "What were they doing with the pits?"He replied, "They would suck on them and drink water with them."Then he invoked Allah's blessing over the food, until the people filled their provision bags. At that point he said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. No servant meets Allah with these two declarations, free of doubt in them, except that he enters Paradise."In another narration, during the expedition of Tabuk, the people were struck by famine. They said, "Messenger of Allah, would you permit us to slaughter our water-bearing camels so we may eat and grease our skins?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do so."Then Umar came and said, "Messenger of Allah, if you do that, the riding mounts will become few. Instead, call them to bring what remains of their provisions, then ask Allah to bless it for them. Perhaps Allah will place blessing in it."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Yes."He called for a leather mat and spread it out, then he called for what remained of their provisions. A man would come with a handful of corn, another would come with a handful of dates, another would come with a piece of bread, until a small amount had gathered on the mat. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then invoked the blessing and said, "Take it into your containers."So they began filling their containers, until they did not leave a single vessel in the camp unfilled. They ate until they were satisfied, and there was still some left over. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah. No servant meets Allah with these two declarations, free of doubt, and is then barred from Paradise."
