Abu Talha said to Umm Sulaym, "I heard the voice of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sounding weak, and I could tell he was hungry. Do you have anything?"She replied, "Yes."She brought out some loaves of barley bread, took her head-covering, wrapped the bread in part of it, then tucked it under my arm and draped the rest of it over me. She then sent me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.I went off with it and found the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sitting in the mosque with people around him. I stood before them.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Has Abu Talha sent you?"I said, "Yes."He asked, "For a meal?"I said, "Yes."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to those with him, "Get up."He set off, and I went ahead of them until I came to Abu Talha and informed him.Abu Talha said, "Umm Sulaym, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has come with the people, and we do not have enough food to feed them."She said, "Allah and His Messenger know best."Abu Talha set off until he met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came forward with Abu Talha alongside him until they entered.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Bring what you have, Umm Sulaym."She brought that bread. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered it to be crumbled, and Umm Sulaym squeezed out a small skin of butter she had and used it as a relish over it. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said whatever Allah willed him to say over it.Then he said, "Allow ten in to enter."He let them in, and they ate until they were full, then they left.Then he said, "Allow another ten in."He let them in, and they ate until they were full, then they left.Then he said, "Allow another ten in."He let them in, and they ate until they were full.Then he said, "Allow another ten in."He let them in, and they ate until they were full, then they left.Then he said, "Allow another ten in."He let them in, and they ate until they were full, then they left.Then he said, "Allow another ten in," until all the people had eaten and were satisfied. The group numbered seventy or eighty men.
قال أبو طلحة لأم سليم: لقد سمعت صوت رسول الله ﷺ ضعيفا، أعرف فيه الجوع، فهل عندك من شيء؟ قالت: نعم فأخرجت أقراصا من شعير، ثم أخذت خمارا لها، فلفت الخبز ببعضه، ثم دسته تحت يدي وردتني ببعضه، ثم أرسلتني إلى رسول الله ﷺ: قال: فذهبت به، فوجدت رسول الله ﷺ جالسا المسجد ومعه الناس، فقمت عليهم، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: آرسلك أبو طلحة؟ قال: فقلت: نعم، قال: للطعام. فقلت: نعم، فقال رسول الله ﷺ لمن معه: قوموا. قال: فانطلق وانطلقت بين أيديهم، حتى جئت أبا طلحة فأخبرته فقال أبو طلحة: يا أم سليم، قد جاء رسول الله ﷺ بالناس، وليس عندنا من الطعام ما نطعمهم؟ فقالت: الله ورسوله أعلم، قال: فانطلق أبو طلحة حتى لقي رسول الله ﷺ، فأقبل رسول الله ﷺ وأبو طلحة معه حتى دخلا، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: هلمي يا أم سليم، ما عندك؟ فأتت بذلك الخبز، فأمر به رسول الله ﷺ ففت، وعصرت أم سليم عكة لها فآدمته ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ ما شاء أن يقول، ثم قال: ائذن لعشرة بالدخول. فأذن لهم، فأكلوا حتى شبعوا ثم خرجوا، ثم قال: ائذن لعشرة. فأذن لهم، فأكلوا حتى شبعوا ثم خرجوا، ثم قال: ائذن لعشرة فأذن لهم، فأكلوا حتى شبعوا ثم قال: ائذن لعشرة فأذن لهم، فأكلوا حتى شبعوا ثم خرجوا، ثم قال: ائذن لعشرة فأذن لهم، فأكلوا حتى شبعوا ثم خرجوا، ثم قال: ائذن لعشرة حتى أكل القوم كلهم وشبعوا، والقوم سبعون أو ثمانون رجلا.
Malik narrated it in the Book of the Description of the Prophet ﷺ (19), from Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha, that he heard Anas bin Malik say what has already been mentioned. Bukhari narrated it in the Signs of Prophethood (3578), and Muslim in the Book of Beverages (2040), both of them through Malik with his chain of transmission.Muslim also narrated it through another route in Beverages (2040:143), from Anas bin Malik, who said, "Abu Talha sent me to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to invite him, for he had prepared a meal. So I went, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with the people. He looked at me, and I felt shy, so I said, 'Answer Abu Talha's invitation.' He said to the people, "Get up." Abu Talha said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have only made a little something for you.' "He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ touched it and prayed for blessing in it, then said, "Let in a group of my companions, ten of them." And he said, "Eat." He brought out something for them from between his fingers, and they ate until they were full, then went out. He said, "Let in ten more." They ate until they were full, then went out. He kept letting in ten and sending out ten until none of them remained who had not entered and eaten until he was full. Then he arranged it, and it was just as it had been when they had eaten from it.
