The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Messenger of Allah, tell us about yourself."He replied, "I am the answer to the prayer of my father Ibrahim and the glad tidings announced by Isa, peace be upon them both. When my mother was pregnant with me, she saw in a vision that a light came forth from her by which the palaces of Busra in the land of Syria were illuminated. I was given to be nursed among the tribe of Banu Saad bin Bakr.While I was with a brother of mine tending our young lambs, two men wearing white garments came to me carrying a basin of gold filled with snow. They laid me down, opened my chest, and took out my heart. They split it open, removed a black clot from it, and cast it aside. Then they washed my heart and my chest with that snow until they had cleansed it thoroughly, and they restored it as it had been.Then one of them said to his companion, 'Weigh him against ten of his nation.' So he weighed me against ten, and I outweighed them. Then he said, 'Weigh him against a hundred of his nation.' So he weighed me against a hundred, and I outweighed them. Then he said, 'Weigh him against a thousand of his nation.' So he weighed me against a thousand, and I outweighed them. Then he said, 'Leave him be, for if you were to weigh him against his entire nation, he would outweigh them all.'"
عن أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ أنهم قالوا: يا رسول الله أخبرنا عن نفسك فقال: دعوة أبي إبراهيم وبشرى عيسى عليهما السلام، ورأت أمي حين حملت بي أنه خرج منها نور أضاءت له قصور بصرى من أرض الشام، واسترضعت في بني سعد بن بكر، فبينا أنا مع أخ لي في بهم لنا أتاني رجلان عليهما ثياب بيض معهما طست من ذهب مملوءة ثلجا فأضجعاني فشقا بطني ثم استخرجا قلبي فشقاه فأخرجا منه علقة سوداء فالقياها. ثم غسلا قلبي وبطني بذلك الثلج، حتى إذا أنقياه رداه كما كان، ثم قال أحدهما لصاحبه زنه بعشرة من أمته فوزنني بعشرة فوزنتهم، ثم قال زنه بمائة من أمته فوزنني بمائة فوزنتهم، ثم قال زنه بألف من أمته فوزنني بألف فوزنتهم، فقال دعه عنك فلو وزنته بأمته لوزنهم.
Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated it in his Sirah (p. 28), saying, "Thawr bin Yazid narrated to me, from Khalid bin Madan," and then he related it. It was also narrated by both Tabari in his Tafsir (2/573) and Hakim (1/600), and from him Bayhaqi in Dalail (831), from the hadith of Ibn Ishaq, in abbreviated form.However, Ibn Hisham said in his Sirah (1/166), "Ibn Ishaq said, Thawr bin Yazid narrated to me, from one of the people of knowledge, and I do not think it was anyone other than Khalid bin Madan Kalai, that a group of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said," and then he related the hadith. Allah, Most High, knows best whether this is how it appeared in the copy that Ibn Hisham had, or whether it was omitted by whoever transmitted it from Ibn Ishaq.Hakim said, "Khalid bin Madan is among the best of the Followers. He kept company with Muaz bin Jabal and with those companions who came after him, so when he traces a hadith back to the companions, its chain is sahih, even though the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not include it."Ibn Kathir said, "This is a good, strong chain," in Bidayah (2/275).His statement "from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ" is not counted as a mursal narration, but rather it is connected, except that the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from whom he heard were not named, and they are many.
