The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, a day will come upon one of you when he will not see me, and then to see me will be dearer to him than his family and his wealth."Abu Ishaq said, "The meaning of this, in my view, is, 'To see me along with them would be dearer to him than his family and his wealth.' In my opinion, the wording is inverted in order."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: والذي نفس محمد بيده، ليأتين على أحدكم يوم ولا يراني، ثم لأن يراني أحب إليه من أهله وماله قال أبو إسحاق: المعنى فيه عندي: لأن يراني معهم أحب إليه من أهله وماله، وهو عندي مقدم ومؤخر.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Virtues (142:2364) from Muhammad bin Rafi, who said, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, Mamar informed us, from Hammam bin Munabbih, who said, "This is what Abu Hurairah narrated to us from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and he then mentioned several hadiths, among them saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said," and he related it.Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Merits (3589) through another route from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording.As for the saying of Abu Ishaq, its meaning is that for him to see me together with them would be dearer to him than his family and wealth, rather than not seeing me. The same is found in Musnad Saeed bin Mansur, as Nawawi stated, and in it there is encouragement to sit with the Prophet and remain close to him for as long as he lived.
